“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them” (John 12:40).
Israel and especially their religious leaders, did not want to hear that the prophecy made by Isaiah, was pointing to them. What was true about them can also be true about many today who simply refuse to hear, see, and believe the true message about Jesus. People still can close their eyes to the truth and not believe.
While it is true God is longsuffering (2 Peter 3:9), He is not forever suffering. We can harden our minds time and time again to the will of God and that persistent disregard to the word of God can only result in us suffering the penalty of our own behavior.
God’s Word says, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting.” (Romans 1:28).
May God give us a determined mind to know, see, and trust the evidence of the gospel and the Savior’s Word of truth.
