by J. Randal Matheny
In a darkened room, subdued and quiet,
the patient sleeps his peaceful slumber,
sedated, silent, no dreams to disturb,
while waiting the surgeon's will and call.
The muted halls and misty skies,
the soundless streets of sabbath rest,
pause in wonder, pray for healing,
deliver to God life and death.
