Predicting Spiritual Growth

By David Bragg

1828: "Rail travel at high speed is not possible because passengers, unable to breathe, would die of asphyxia."
1903: "The horse is here to stay but the automobile is only a novelty - a fad."
1936: "A rocket will never be able to leave the Earth's atmosphere."
2007: "There's no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance." (www.news.com.au)
Experts have never been shy when it comes to bold predictions. The problem is history’s notoriously uncooperative way of making those bold predictions reality.
When it comes to spiritual growth, is there an ironclad way to predict success? Yes.
If you are cultivating Paul’s list of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), you will be growing spiritually.
If you continue producing the fruit of the Spirit throughout your life you will be righteous in the sight of God. We can know that this is true because the Word of God ALWAYS accomplishes its goal (Isaiah 55:11). The purpose of the fruit of the Spirit is to instill righteousness in the heart and lives of God's people. And righteousness is a perfect predictor of spiritual success.
